We are very excited and honored to welcome our guest to the April 8th Refinery Healing Walk: Sweetwater Nannauk! Sweetwater is an Idle No More activist that advocates for the protection of the fragile environment of the Northwest Coast, for tribal sovereignty rights, and the traditional way of life of Native people. She is a signer of the Indigenous Women of the Americas Defending Mother Earth Treaty and a long-time community organizer, activist for police accountability, and Native artist’s rights.

We will begin near the Pittsburg Marina at 3 Marina Blvd in the City of Pittsburg, California

8:00 a.m. Water Ceremony & Registration
9:30 a.m. Walk Begins
There are several places along the walk where folks can join the walk - please see the details of the route below.

The walk will end at Martinez Shoreline Park, end of Ferry Street in the City of Martinez, California

Please feel free to join us for the prayers for the water at 8:00 a.m.  We will walk to the shore and make our prayers.  Feel free to bring a small bottle of water from your area to join the waters in the Carquinez Straights  (where the Delta meets the Bay) in Pittsburg.

Registration for the walk will begin at 8:00 a.m.  Walkers will be asked to agree to the Nonviolent Principles.  For details on what to bring/not bring, please go to "What To Expect" in the tabs above.

This walk is approximately 13.5 miles from beginning to end.  There will be support vehicles available for people who wish to take breaks during the walk.  Medics will also be available.   Water will be provided - please bring your reusable water bottle.

Joining us for the first Refinery Healing Walk of 2017? We encourage walkers to take BART to the North Concord Station if possible! We are happy to transport folks arriving on BART to our starting point for the Water Ceremony – and we promise to get you back to the Martinez/North Concord Station at the end of the Healing Walk. If you know you will need to leave before the end of the walk, please arrange your own ride. To ensure we have enough vehicles on standby, please do these two things:

1) RSVP ASAP for BART pick-up at refineryhealingwalks@gmail.com and include your first names and a contact phone number.

2) On April 8th, arrive at the NORTH CONCORD BART by the 7:26 AM train at the latest.  There will be no BART pick-ups after 7:40 AM.

A bus (called Iguana!) will take walkers over a 2 mile part of the walk on the freeway between Pittsburg and Martinez.  There was no other route available for walkers other than a route that would have added many miles to the walk.
